Blackstone School Plaque

The Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Wallingford, Councillors Colin Dolton and Ros. Lester were amongst those present on Saturday April 28th at Wallingford School for the unveiling of the plaque commemorating the opening of Blackstone Secondary School  on that site in September 1958.   Both Colin and Ros. are former pupils of Blackstone School.

The plaque was unveiled by  Linda Ruffell, daughter of Dick Tomlin, Headmaster of Blackstone School.   The unveiling followed a short presentation about the school and those that worked there.

Funding for the plaque was covered by donations from various people.   These were sufficient to cover the cost of the plaque with the remainder (110) being sent to P.A.C.T. to help its work with parents and young children.

The plaque is a fitting tribute to the school which played a significant role in the education of so many young people.
